High Speed photograph of a bullet cutting through stretched rubber bands
In this photograph a supersonic bullet cuts through a series of tightly stretched rubber bands giving us a general iea of how the rubber bands react to being cut. Note that as one looks closer to the bullet the bands are not as far apart as further back from the bullet. The time between the cutting of each rubber band is a function of how fast the bullet was traveling (about 1,000 feet per second) and the actual distance between the bands (about 1 inch) making the time between bands something in the order of 1/10,000 second.
