High Speed splash photograph of a drop of water II (horizontal)

A drop of water falling into a smooth pool of water causes a momentary crown or bubble to be formed that disappears from view in less than 1/1,000 second and thus the event is invisible to our eyes. A high speed electronic flash synchronized with the moment of impact of the drop reveals the complex events that go on at the surface as the force of the drop's impact on the water surface cause this "crown" to begin to form, evolve and finally disappear in less than 1/1,000 second.
